About the Meeting Process
Kern County will be holding various meetings related to the redistricting process.
The County is required to hold at least four public hearings to receive public input on where district lines should be drawn. In addition to that, the County is holding some additional informational meetings and workshops to encourage public participation and to familiarize the public with the tools for drawing map boundaries.
Additional Information
The requirements for the public hearings are as follows:
- The minimum number of public hearings is four (4).
- At least one hearing must be held before draft maps are drawn and at least two after draft maps are drawn.
- At least one hearing must be scheduled outside of standard working hours (either after 6 PM or on a Saturday or Sunday).
There are no specified requirements for the informational meetings or workshops, but the County will make every effort to make them easily accessible by the public.
For any Redistricting hearings or workshops that take place during a Board of Supervisors meeting, members of the public can request to speak by following the Board of Supervisors meeting's normal procedure for public comment (see Rule 12, Testimony, in the Administrative and Procedural Rules for Board Proceedings).
The County will arrange for translation of a public redistricting meeting into other languages if a request for translation is made at least 72 hours before the meeting.
